10 cocktails to kick off 2018

Get into the holiday spirits with drinks that will surely help you welcome the New Year with a bang!

1. Gin Pomelo

Embrace the cheerful celebration with the pinoy-favorite cocktail, Gin Pomelo. This gives a fresh, well-balanced taste with a hint of sweet floral and fruity notes that make it more enticing. Best when shared with family and friends.

Ingredients:
45ml Empire London Dry Gin
22ml lemon juice
15ml elderflower syrup
pomelo juice
soda water
5-8 mint leaves

How to make:
In a shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, elderflower syrup and pomelo juice with mint leaves. Add ice and shake. Double strain into a highball glass filled with ice and top with soda water. Garnish with a mint bouquet.

2. Weng Weng

After all the Christmasfrenzy,WengWeng, aPinoy slang for intoxicated, is yourmuch-deserved drink to cap off 2017. This bar staple has four different types of spirits that make it extraordinarily good and extremely strong.

Ingredients:
15ml El Hombre Silver
15ml Toska Vodka
15ml Kelly Dry Gin
15ml Palawan Blanco Rum
22ml lemon juice
15ml orgeat syrup
5ml grenadine
30ml pineapple juice
30ml orange juice

How to make:
Add ingredients into a shaker filled with ice, shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with pineapple slice and leaf.

3. Boracay

Considered as a popular drink among Filipino drinkers, Boracay is a sweet cocktail that perfectly matches the good tidings! Recreate this sweet yet feisty treat with the Very Old Captain Artisan Crafted Dark Rum to get that fiery kick.

Ingredients:
45ml Boracay
30ml Very Old Captain Rum
60ml Boracay Mix*
15ml rice milk (aam)
hazelnut syrup
marshmallows

How to make:
Put all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Add ice then shake. Strain into a highball glass with ice and garnish with toasted marshmallows.
*Boracay Mix:
30ml condensed milk
60ml hot water
1 sachet Milo powder
2 tbsp instant coffee powder

4. Lambanog Fizz

No Filipino holiday is being complete without this local and classic drink!Lambanog Fizz is a fancy drink made with lambanog, calamansi liqueur, and guyabano puree for a strong kick and intense flavor.

Ingredients:
45ml San Juan Premium Lambanog
15ml Manille Liqueur de Calamansi
30ml guyabano puree
15ml lemon juice
1 egg white soda water

How to make:
Combine ingredients (except soda water) in a shaker and dry shake. Add ice and shake again. Strain into a rock glass filled with ice, wait for ingredients to settle then add soda water. Garnish with dried guyabano

5. Manille Basil Smash

Drink up the holiday cheers by grabbing a glass of Manille Basil Smash! Light, refreshing, and simple,this delicious and relatively healthy concoction is the perfect for family gatherings or a mini garden party.

Ingredients:
45ml Empire London Dry Gin
22ml Manille Liqueur de Calamansi
22ml lemon juice
30ml simple syrup
4-6 basil leaves

How to make:
Muddle basil leaves in simple syrup at the base of a cocktail shaker. Add rest of the ingredients and shake with ice until cold. Double strain liquid into a rock glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a large basil leaf.

6. Basi Flip

Meet the localized version of the Porto Flip— the Basi Flip! Basi Flip is a textbook holiday mixthat gives a sweet and creamy taste, which you can make using some Christmas leche flan.

Ingredients:
90ml Vigan Basi Philippine Sugarcane Wine
30ml leche flan syrup*
15ml simple syrup
15ml Cervesa Negra nutmeg *leche flan syrup
100g leche flan
100g simple syrup add equal parts by weight of leche flan and simple syrup into a blender

How to make:
In a shaker, add Vigan Basi Philippine Sugarcane Wine, leche flan syrup and simple syrup. Shake well with ice and strain into a rock glass filled with ice. Top with dark beer and grated nutmeg. Garnish with a spoon of leche flan.

7. Quarantine

Raise your glass and make a toast with this top favorite cocktail. With highly alcoholic mixes, Quarantine will surely bring out the best in every New Year party! For a more exciting twist, replace the anisette liqueur with absinthe and brightenwith orange marmalade for a sweet, citrusy touch.

Recipe:
45ml Very Old Captain Rum
15ml dry vermouth
10ml lemon juice
10ml simple syrup
2 barspoons orange marmalade
2 dashes absinthe

How to make:
Rinse a chilled coupe with 2 dashes absinthe. Discard residual absinthe. In a shaker, combine remaining ingredients, add ice and then shake., Double strain contents into cocktail coupe. No garnish

8. Zeinie

For a merrier holiday, grab a glass of Zeinie. This drink was found in the Overseas Club in Zamboanga, made with cognac, maraschino, lime juice, pineapple syrup, and Angostura bitters. For a more unique twist, remake with Napoleon VSOP Brandy and papaya. Enjoy the Zeinie, a historic cocktail, at home this Holiday season.

Ingredients:
45ml Napoleon VSOP Brandy
10ml Maraschino Liqueur
15ml lime juice
15ml papaya puree*
10ml simple syrup

How to make:
Add ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail coupe. Garnish with papaya cubes
*Papaya puree
1 cup papaya fruit (peeled, no seeds)
water (to achieve consistency)
add papaya chunks in a blender and blend. add water to achieve a smooth consistency

Glassware: Cocktail Coupe

9. Expired

This cocktail is made with menthol candy, gin, and strong beer. In this version, use a fresh mint candy and switch straight beer with a dark beer syrup and ginger beer. The result is ultimately more refreshing and palatable, a perfect pairing with a heavy dinner.

Ingredients:
45ml Empire London Dry Gin
22ml lime juice
22ml beer syrup*
60ml ginger beer mint leaves
*Beer syrup
1 bottle beer
1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan cook down
1 bottle of beer with 1/4 cup sugar.
Bring to a boil for 2 minutes

How to make:
In a shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients except ginger beer. Shake and strain into a steel cup with ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a mint bouquet

Glassware: Tin or steel cup

10. Totoy

A glass of this refreshing, tropical and boozy cocktail is ideal to jumpstart the fun this New Year. This easy-to-drink cocktail plays with the classic combination of guava and chili, perfect to warm up the good luck as you welcome 2018.

Ingredients;
45ml El Hombre Gold
22ml guava nectar
15ml lemon juice
10ml simple syrup

How to make:
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a coupe rimmed with salt and chili flakes.
